We have a new coach!

The Hope Valley Cricket Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jeff Vaughan as senior coach for the coming 2007/08 season.

Jeff brings with him a wealth of cricketing experience (both playing and coaching) to our cricket club and is really keen to commence working with our playing group to develop all our players to fulfil their maximum potential.

For those that don't know - here is a brief synopsis - Jeff played 28 first class games & 23 one day games for South Australia, played 16 seasons of A grade district cricket for the Prospect District Cricket Club, was the Club Captain for numerous years, holds various batting records at Prospect including most centuries (16), hit over 6000 district runs at an average of 44 and was the Director of Coaching at Prospect in 2004/05 & 2005/06. He is also the current SACA Country coach.

Click here to see Jeffs profile on the Cricinfo website.

We are supremely confident in Jeff's ability to further improve the Hope Valley Cricket Club and also in his enthusiasm for the job at hand - he is raring to go!

There will be opportunities to meet the coach in the coming months, so please take these opportunities to come along and welcome Jeff into our club!

I also wish to take this opportunity to again thank Andrew Dunn for all the great work he has done as senior coach during the last 2 seasons. Dunny has shown great dedication to the role and I think the steps forward the club has made during this time has been testimony to his hard work.

Cheers
Mark Wishart
President

Milestones make for great performances!

April 10th 2008

congratulations to Wish, Mac and Lippy for their performances in mile stone games this season.

After round 11 season 2007/08, Wish played his 200th senior game (including 5 dismissals in a win against Glenunga) and Lippy played his 100th senior match in the same game (hitting 52). Macca played in his 150th game in round 8 and hit 107 in the A's win over Old Scotch.

LOC's Grand Final Report

If you haven't heard already, our LOC one day side made the Grand Final follwing their win over Woody Rech , with Rowdy hitting 50 while Kiwi grabbed a five 'fa in that match.
Unfortunately however, things didn't go exactly to plan in the GF..

The guys played the grand final against Kensington on Saturday 15th March, at Col. Waite Oval in Kensington Gardens. There was a great turn out from our supporters but things quickly turned sour when the Kensington opener began smashing the ball all around the park, including one massive six that hit half way up a huge gum tree..
He finally fell on 127, but by this stage, his cameo had put Kensingotn in the box seat..
The Valley's responded well after the opening barrage, with Nick O'Dell taking 2/32 while Nick Perry took 2/22 from his 9. Kensington however, already had the runs on the board, and at the end of 40 overs, the target: 246.
David 'Rowdy' Reid and Ben Tombs started things well, hitting boundaries from the start to give us a sniff of an unlikely victory, but then Ben fell to a poor shot for a well made 38 and Reidy for 22 and from then on there were only 2 other scores in double figures. The tail and middle order crumbled and we eventually sucuumbed to see us all out for a rather average 125.
Congratulations must go to the LOC however, for again making the Grand Final, but it's probably fair to say they lost to a better side this time around.

Hero to zero

From Hero.. To Zero!

Sun 4th Feb

How quickly you can fall in this game eh?

Mac was one of three ducks in the A grade's early innings collapse on the weekend, after bowling out Goodwood on the first day of round 10 at the Valley.

For the record, mac chose the headline for this news update..

All senior two days sides fielded first. The As bowled out Goodwood for around 195 and are 4 down for not many, the B's are chasing 230 odd against Glenunga and the C's dismissed Unley for 140, and are 2/78 in reply. The LOC's lost by 30 against Woody Rech

Macca Got a Ton

Macca hits a ton

Nice work Macca! Simon McPhee hit 107 against Old Scotch in Saturday's 100 run Win over Old Scotch at the Valley

Chappy took some shine of the performance however, hitting 43* - and from 12 balls (well apparently..)

All in all it was a great weekend for the club with every side bringing home a win, - while Ash Sykes brought home the most killer ass bruise we've ever seen! And promptly combined with Troy in our fortnightly, 'Club Match Report' competition to move in to first place..

Rock Ape Stake

Simon Hagget Rock Ape Stake?

Those attending the night at the dogs had a great night. There were the obligatory loosers but a few winners too. Highlight of the night was probably the 'Simon Hagget Rock Ape Stake', aptly named by our resident Bananna loving Ape look alike who won the raffle to name the race.

P.Walker, sorry P.Wacker was the big winner on the night, hitting a trifecta and 30 seconds later winning the raffle for the signed redbacks cricket bat. Nice work Wacker!

A very BIG thank you goes to our sponsors for the night:

Chalk and Cheese

Vaughany stars as the Valley starts the season on a high!

The Vallys are off to a great start to the season with all senior 2 day sides coming home victorious after Saturday's conclusion to round 1 of season 2007/08.

New coach Jeff Vaughan set things alight in the A grade opening match at the valley, hitting 176 as the home side recovered from a precarious 4/13 opening order collapse, to eventually posted a massive score in reply of 376.

Newly crowned (and Official) 'Chairman of the Duck Club' Richie Mellors was like chalk and cheese having a beer with the coach back at the club.

" We put on 176 you 'n me! " Jeff was heard to say to Richy..

Congratulations to all victorious sides for the opening round!

HVCC scores $1000 thanks to Kraft Peanut Butter!

By the way, i hear Wisha is open to suggestions on how we should spend it.. (some new gear perhaps?, some awards? end of season trip...)
